The American Fishing Tour is one of the oldest national bass fishing tours in the US. It started in the mid-70s as Military Bass Anglers Association. In 2000, the series was renamed to American Bass Anglers and opened to all non-military. Here is some basic information on this national bass tournament tour.

The tour offers a national format for the true grass root anglers. With a low entry fee of $70 for a one-day event and a path to a big national championship. The concept is very simple, fish local, do well and advance to a year-end championship where the prizes are huge. For example, this year at the Championship in October, there will be three fully rigged Triton Boats with Mercury Outboards that will be won. A Triton 21TRX to the Champion, a Triton 21TRX to the Angler of the Year and a Triton 19TRX to the top placing non-boater.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 10)

GOOD. Water stained; 70 degrees; 6.45 feet below pool. The lake continues to be turbid, so navigate with caution to avoid sandbars and stumps. Bass are spawning in the grass lines in 4-15 feet of water biting crankbaits. Crappie bite is good in the shallows and slow on the brush piles. Some crappie are spawning near cypress trees, wade anglers can target these. White bass are schooling on main lake points with jigs, minnows, crankbaits and jigging spoons. Catfish are in the creeks spawning in 4-8 feet of water, and slowing back to the main lake. Report by Captain Lynn Atkinson, Reel Um N Guide Service. Shad spawn is in full swing. Bass are good keying on hard clay points, grass edges and flooded timber with swim jigs, chatterbaits, topwater spooks or pop-r’s. Offshore bite is 10-20 feet on hard spots and flats, points and creek channel swings using crankbaits, Carolina rigs, shaky heads and dropshots. Crappie have finished spawning in 12-20 feet of water on brush piles and standing timber. Report by Captain Hank Harrison, Double H Precision Fishing.
