A high school angler might catch a 10 plus pound bass this coming weekend




The Deep East Texas High School Fishing Series Sam Rayburn tournament is this weekend, March 28.Anglers can fish the Deep East tournament and qualify for B.A.S.S. at the same time, or fish on Sunday to get your B.A.S.S. qualifying weight added to your four best fish.

“We have weighed in or know of at least eight 10 plus pound big bass in the past three weekends in this area,” says Terry Simpson of Jackson Hill Marina. “This is the time of the year that can produce amazing fish, and you need to be here to catch the biggest fish of your life.”

Tournament check in is 6:30 a.m. with take-off around 7:00 a.m. Final weigh-in is at 3:00 p.m. For more information contact Simpson at 936-872-9266.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Mar. 20)

GOOD. Water stained; 62 degrees; 5.44 feet below pool. Bass are in the grass lines in 4-15 feet of water biting soft plastics and spin baits. Some can be caught in the drains with crankbaits and jigs. Crappie are transitioning to the pockets to spawn. White bass are up the river. Catfish are in the creeks hitting cut bait off the bottom. The water is stained and water levels are low, so navigate with caution watching for sand bars. Report by Captain Lynn Atkinson, Reel Um N Guide Service. The bite bass bite has been fantastic! Large waves and groups of fish shallow from 10-15 feet deep as well as large numbers of fish shallow 1-7 feet deep. Primarily fishing a Carolina rig, medium diving crankbait, and Texas rig in 10-15 feet. Cast rattletraps, chatterbaits, and lightweight Carolina rigs up shallow.
