Sam Rayburn Tournament Cancelled

American Bass Anglers officials made the decision today to reschedule the January 10th, 2015 Southeast Texas tournament on Sam Rayburn.

"After many phone calls from concerned anglers, we have made the decision to reschedule this weekend’s event. With conditions ranging from extremely high water to possible sleet/ice mixtures due to below freezing temperatures, we feel that the safety of our anglers would be compromised. Our anglers are the most important part of ABA and we will always try to make the best decisions in their interest. Rescheduling this event is an example of one of those decisions," said Morris Sheehan, ABA president.

The event is rescheduled for July 25th, 2015 at Sam Rayburn, launching from Umphrey Pavilion.

"I know rescheduling the event for July is not ideal due to hot summer weather, but it will be much safer than the conditions at Sam Rayburn this weekend," said Sheehan. Anglers that have already registered for the January 10th event can have their entry fees transferred to the next or even refunded, if needed. The Southeast Texas event scheduled for February 14th, 2015 at Sam Rayburn will now be the 2015 season opener for the Southeast Texas division.

"It is very disappointing that we are having to reschedule the Sam Rayburn event this weekend. Registration numbers were looking really good for Southeast Texas division opener.

"I still look to have a big increase in participation in the Southeast Texas division in 2015. We have already broken the 100 boat mark at our Florida division event for this weekend and that is just evidence of the record breaking year we are looking to have with the Weekend Bass Series this year.

"I hope that any anglers that are adversely affected by this decision will understand that it was in their best interests," said Evan Boutwell, ABA marketing director. Any questions or concerns regarding the scheduling change can be directed to the attention of Evan Boutwell at ABA headquarters (256) 232-0406.

Bass are on points and drains in shallow water spawning, and some are in a post spawn biting crankbaits and Carolina rigs. Some topwater along the grass edges. Crappie are fair in the shallows near stumps and fair on the brush piles. Some crappie are spawning near cypress trees, wade anglers can target these. White bass are schooling on main lake points but not surfacing yet. Catch some with jigs, minnows, crankbaits and jigging spoons. Catfish are slowly moving back to the points.
