February Patriots Challenge won by Wade and Spriggs

Clint Wade and Stacy Spriggs caught their 7.95 lb kicker just in time to complete a great day on Sam Rayburn as they edged out the field with a 25.89 lb sack of Rayburn Green. The contest featured 40 limits out of the 41 teams entered and six 20 lb plus sacks on this early spring day.

Fish were in the bushes for most of the anglers as well as moving in and out of spawning flats around the mid-lake area. Second place went Jared Dean and Brent Johnson with 25.68 lb limit and third place went to John Spencer and Henry Sargent with 24.89 lbs and the days big fish, a 8.44 lb green giant.

Patriots Challenge was created to say thank you to the people who have given us the freedom to enjoy wonderful natural resources like Sam Rayburn Lake.

Our first first Wounded Warrior event of the year on March 18-20. We need volunteers boaters for this event reported Connie Sympson of Jackson Hill Marina.

Patriots Challenge will also continue the Commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and as a proud National Commemorative Partner, Outdoor Freedom Network will continue to recognize Vietnam Vets throughout the year. "We welcome everyone to come out to join them to fish for the fun, fish for the money and fish for the cause. We have a special thank you that we would like to give to every Vietnam Veteran that comes to Jackson Hill whether you fish or not" Ms Sympson added.

The Outdoor Freedom Network is a 501 (c) (3) public charity that operates the Patriots Challenge Fishing Tournament Series to help raise money to host military members past and present for free stays, food, guided fishing trips, rest and relaxation on beautiful Sam Rayburn Lake. All profit made at these weekend series tournaments directly benefit military members and their families. Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 17)

GOOD. Water slightly stained; 70 degrees; 5.19 feet below pool. Navigate with caution to avoid sandbars and stumps. Bass are on points and drains in shallow water spawning, and some are in a post spawn biting crankbaits and Carolina rigs. Some topwater along the grass edges. Crappie are fair in the shallows near stumps and fair on the brush piles. Some crappie are spawning near cypress trees, wade anglers can target these. White bass are schooling on main lake points but not surfacing yet. Catch some with jigs, minnows, crankbaits and jigging spoons. Catfish are slowly moving back to the points. Report by Captain Lynn Atkinson, Reel Um N Guide Service. Shad spawn is in full swing. Bass are good keying on hard clay points, grass edges and flooded timber with swim jigs, chatterbaits, topwater spooks or pop-r’s. Offshore bite is 10-20 feet on hard spots and flats, points and creek channel swings using crankbaits, Carolina rigs, shaky heads and dropshots. Crappie have finished spawning in 12-20 feet of water on brush piles and standing timber. Report by Captain Hank Harrison, Double H Precision Fishing.
