October Patriots Challange won by Wade and Spriggs

Clint Wade and Stacy Spriggs caught their five fish limit of 18.56 lbs to win the October 8th Patriots Challenge weekend series tournament at Jackson Hill Marina. Second place went to father son team Clayton and Holden Boulware with four fish that weighed 17.49 lb and third place went to Clarence Sanderson and Booby Addison who managed to catch their five fish limit that totaled 16.28 lbs lbs and once again brought in the days big fish at 6.28 lbs.

Most of the top teams used a combination of early frog fishing and Carolina and Texas rigged plastics to land their better fish. the cooler weather has also begun to produce a lipless crank bait bite for some as the shad begin to gather up in the mouths of creeks north of the 147 bridge. The next Patriots Challenge will be held on November 19th and everyone is invited to participate.

Patriots Challenge was created to say thank you to the people who have given us the freedom to enjoy our wonderful natural resources like Sam Rayburn Lake. The Outdoor Freedom Network is a 501 (c) (3) public charity that operates the Patriots Challenge Fishing Tournament Series to help raise money to host military members past and present for free stays, food, guided fishing trips, rest and relaxation on beautiful Sam Rayburn Lake. 100% of profit made at these weekend series tournaments directly benefit military members and their families. Fishing Report from TPWD (Mar. 20)

GOOD. Water stained; 62 degrees; 5.44 feet below pool. Bass are in the grass lines in 4-15 feet of water biting soft plastics and spin baits. Some can be caught in the drains with crankbaits and jigs. Crappie are transitioning to the pockets to spawn. White bass are up the river. Catfish are in the creeks hitting cut bait off the bottom. The water is stained and water levels are low, so navigate with caution watching for sand bars. Report by Captain Lynn Atkinson, Reel Um N Guide Service. The bite bass bite has been fantastic! Large waves and groups of fish shallow from 10-15 feet deep as well as large numbers of fish shallow 1-7 feet deep. Primarily fishing a Carolina rig, medium diving crankbait, and Texas rig in 10-15 feet. Cast rattletraps, chatterbaits, and lightweight Carolina rigs up shallow.
