It looks like it’s getting that time of the year when jigs, worms (big) are the choice of bass. The lures that caught winning fish at FLW Tournament on Grand Lake in Oklahoma were mostly an assortment of jigs, worms and soft plastic add-ons. What’s happening at Grand in Oklahoma translates into what our fishing will soon be with the first cold fronts getting low enough to push through Texas.
Curt Warren earned the W by slowly dragging a 3/4-ounce Bass-X football jig in the kicker craw color with a watermelon candy Zoom Brush Hog. A 1/2-ounce white spinnerbait with double willow-leaf blades served him well when bass pushed bait to the surface. Jason Christie added a Yum Chritie Critter his Zoom Brush Hog.
Booby Hartsell used a 1/2-ounce Omega football jig with a Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Craw trailer, a 11/16-ounce Gene Larew Biffle Hardhead with a Biffle Bug trailer and a 1/2-ounce homemade flipping jig with a Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Craw. Bradley Hallman and Cody Bird flipped a Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver with a 3/8 - ounce weight.
Jeremy Lawyer put his faith in a 1/2-ounce JaKKed Baits DoKK RoKK 2.0 jig with a Zoom Z-Craw Jr. trailer and a JaKKed J-Law’s 413 ShaKKer HD head with a Zoom Magnum Trick Worm.
Zoom soft plastics continued to be go-to baits including a Zoom Magnum Trick Worm, a Zoom Z-Craw, a Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Craw. Lance Crawford caught his fish on a 11/16-ounce Gene Larew Biffle Hardhead with a Biffle Bug trailer and a 1/2-ounce BOOYAH spinnerbait with double willow-leaf blades.
Allen Head started his days by pitching a wacky-rigged worm around docks, before moving deeper and fishing a Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Worm.or a Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Craw.
