The Light the Way Children's Learning Center in Broaddus had a field trip to Jackson Hill Marina to spend a sunny spring morning trying to catch a trophy fish. Darrel Baggett from Light the Way was fishing guide for a day and reported most of the 10 children were able to catch a crappie or sun perch during their stay. "All the fish managed to survive to fight another day but one of them might have a pretty sore jaw" Baggett added. The young anglers included Ransom and Trenton Sowell, Ryan Blanks, Jacob Pennington, Mathew Brewer, Cassidy Woodall, Tristin Stevenson, John Patten, Justin Chapman, Kaydin Smith and Ryder Morgan. The children were accompanied by as many adult assistants and the whole group had a picnic lunch featuring grilled chili hot dogs. Karion Hawkins Light the Way Director said that "we are blessed by our areas natural beauty; it is important for children to have contact with it and is always fun for us to see how excited they are to spend time in the outdoors".
