Flournoy and Chumley are $60.000 richer




Patty Lenderman reports for Bass Champs that William Flournoy and James Chumley fishing the 3rd Annual Techron TX Shootout on Sam Rayburn took home over $60K.

Nearly 300 teams participated in this world’s largest one day team event hosted by Bass Champs that paid back over $137,000 in cash and prizes.

William Flournoy and James Chumley christened the scales with a 33.02 lb sack that included an 8.89 lb kicker. Using a combination of worms and jigs in open water for their catch, they lucked on to the fish they were looking for and caught nearly all the fish they weighed before 8am.

They caught eight keepers all day including the eight pounder about 1:00 on a Stanley Jig.

Second place winners, Brothers Ronnie and Ricky Madole, weighed in 31 pounds even. Their morning bite was on, using 10XD crank baits. They had all of their fish by 10am.

Husband and wife Michael and Crystal Lowery slid into 3rd place with another great sack weighing 28.95 pounds. Included in their limit was a 9.17 lb trophy bass.

Twenty teams brought in limits exceeding 20 pounds. Rounding out the top 10:

5th $3,000 26.32 lbs Jerry Hayes & Chandler Hayes
6th $2,500 25.11 lbs Randy Sullivan & Spike Stoker
7th $2,000 24.50 lbs Mark Mueck & David Curtis
8th $1,600+ 23.61 lbs Troy Roder & Dakota Ebare (+ $1,600 Sportsman’s Auto Bonus)
9th $1,300 23.48 lbs Nick Diberardino & Larry Cotton
10th $1,200 23.35 lbs Justin Morton & Randy Turner
And last in the money:
36th $1,000 17.69 lbs John Scott III & Jacob Permenter

There were two other nine pound fish brought to the scale. A 9.56 bass anchored the 8th place finish for Troy Roder & Dakota Ebare. The team who took home the $1,000 check for biggest bass of the day was Chris and Rusty Harvey with their 9.73 lb bass.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 17)

GOOD. Water slightly stained; 70 degrees; 5.19 feet below pool. Navigate with caution to avoid sandbars and stumps. Bass are on points and drains in shallow water spawning, and some are in a post spawn biting crankbaits and Carolina rigs. Some topwater along the grass edges. Crappie are fair in the shallows near stumps and fair on the brush piles. Some crappie are spawning near cypress trees, wade anglers can target these. White bass are schooling on main lake points but not surfacing yet. Catch some with jigs, minnows, crankbaits and jigging spoons. Catfish are slowly moving back to the points. Bass are good keying on hard clay points, grass edges and flooded timber with swim jigs, chatterbaits, topwater spooks or pop-r’s. Offshore bite is 10-20 feet on hard spots and flats, points and creek channel swings using crankbaits, Carolina rigs, shaky heads and dropshots.
