Carroway and Reese Go Two for Two

There is something about the V&M Baits Tournament that brings out the best in Roy Carroway and Dewayne Reese. In the 2018 V&M Tournament, this duo weighed in 25.48 pounds to handily win the event by over 6 pounds. Yesterday in the 2019 event, they almost topped their previous year's success by dropping 24.87 pounds on the scales.

Even though it was about a half a pound lighter, ultimately it was worth a lot more money than their 2018 win. The 100% payback format netted Carroway and Reese $4,750 plus they took advantage of the Skeeter Real Money incentive adding another $3,000 to their winnings for a total haul of $7,750.

The team did not catch a lot of fish, but the fish they did were obviously the quality every fisherman is searching for. Fishing in 8-12' of water, the V&M Wild Thang worm in redbug color was the weapon of choice for the second year in a row.

Right on their heels was the team of Kevin Lasyone and Randy Despino with an impressive stringer of 24.55 pounds. The V&M Wild Thang worm was also their choice of lures, but blue fleck was credited for their success. Rounding out the top three teams was Casey Burleigh and Josh Rodgers with 22.62 pounds.

This past weekend's V&M Baits Tournament, with 97 teams entered, was their largest tournament to date.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Jul. 2)

GOOD. Water stained; 86 degrees; 0.49 feet above pool. Freshwater is still entering the lake from the river, and water is being released. Topwater bass bite is early in the morning and evening. Bass are deeper on points, drains and humps with crankbaits and Carolina rigs. Crappie are good on brush piles, but many undersized fish and bluegill to sift through. Catfish are good in 18-20 feet of water on cut bait. A few white bass are schooling on main lake points. Cast baits to shade. Report by Captain Lynn Atkinson, Reel Um N Guide Service. Anticipate increased boater traffic this weekend as we celebrate our Nation’s Independence Day.
