Father - Son Team Takes the Win

Father's Day is a special day to any dad, but when you can spend it on the water with your son and win $3,500, it is even sweeter! That is exactly what happened to Jason and Ty Moorhead this past weekend in The Outlaw Outdoors Father's Day Tournament presented by Dylan Williams Allstate Insurance.

The Moorhead duo topped the field of 122 teams at the Outlaw Outdoors Father’s Day Tournament at Lake Sam Rayburn with a three fish stringer weighing 17.39 pounds. The tournament win netted them $2,500. With incentives from Kirbyville Vet Clinic their total increased to $3,500.00.

The team of Ken Smith and Steve Evans had success early in the day and weighed in two fish early in the day. Their two fish weighed 10.36 pounds, and they spent the last four hours of the tournament looking for their third fish. Late in the day, they found a 5 1/2 pound bass to finish their limit and secure their second place finish that was good for $2,100.

Lance Lamoon spent the last several weeks working and decided to wing it by himself for the day, and it paid off well for him. Lance caught the Daiwa Big Bass, 15.11 pound trophy, which anchored his 15.11 pound bag for a third place finish. Lamoon left the Cassels Boykin Pavilion with a total of $2,300.

There was a total of 122 teams entered with 73 of them either father/child or grandfather/grandchild teams. A couple of the anglers chose to take their dad fishing for the day. “It was an awesome day for a lot of teams.”

GOOD. Water slightly stained; 70 degrees; 3.49 feet below pool. Navigate with caution to avoid sandbars and stumps. Bass are on points and drains in shallow water spawning, and some are in a post spawn biting crankbaits and Carolina rigs. Some topwater along the grass edges. Crappie are fair in the shallows near stumps and fair on the brush piles. Some crappie are spawning near cypress trees, wade anglers can target these. White bass are schooling on main lake points but not surfacing yet. Catch some with jigs, minnows, crankbaits and jigging spoons. Catfish are slowly moving back to the points. Report by Captain Lynn Atkinson, Reel Um N Guide Service. Shad spawn is in full swing. Bass are good keying on hard clay points, grass edges and flooded timber with swim jigs, chatterbaits, topwater spooks or pop-r’s. Offshore bite is 10-20 feet on hard spots and flats, points and creek channel swings using crankbaits, Carolina rigs, shaky heads and dropshots. Crappie have finished spawning in 12-20 feet of water on brush piles and standing timber. Report by Captain Hank Harrison, Double H Precision Fishing.
