June 18 Patriots Challange won by Hale and Newman

Shannon Hale and Todd Newman caught their 5.67 lb kicker just in time to complete a great day on Sam Rayburn as they edged out the field with a 22.31 lb sack of Rayburn bass. Every team that weighed in had a limit of fish and a third of the 20 team field had 18 lbs or better on a very hot and humid summer day.

Fish were in shallow water in spite of the high temps for most of the anglers. Deeper fish were also found with Texas rigged 10 inch worms as well as an occasional spinner bait bite reported by several anglers.

Second place went to William Flournoy and Carter Chumley with 20.87 lb limit; third place went to Dustin Perry and Wes Emerson with 20.27 lbs. The final check went to fourth place team, Cody Barton and Jacob Perimenter with 19.72 lbs. The days big fish, was turned in by Charles Evans and Blake Steptoe with a 7.57 lb big girl caught flipping bushes.

The next Patriots Challenge is this weekend, the last weekend series tournament before the September 17th open Championship where the new Texas Fallen Heroes Memorial Wall is scheduled to be unveiled to all in attendance. "The new Memorial Wall is being completed and includes aluminum panels and dye sublimation graphics that promise to be eye popping" said Terry Sympson founder of Patriots Challenge. He added "The new wall will pay tribute from WW I to present with every Texas military member who fell fighting the war on terror honored with their name and picture.

The wall will also include a tribute to those who died out of theatre and those who have so tragically taken their own lives."

Patriots Challenge was created to say thank you to the people who have given us the freedom to enjoy wonderful natural resources like Sam Rayburn Lake. Fishing Report from TPWD (May 1)

GOOD. Water stained; 72 degrees; 3.29 feet below pool. Bass are in 8 feet or less with some in the lily pads on topwater frogs, or with Carolina rigs and jigs on harder bottoms and structures off points and humps. Crappie are transitioning to brush piles using minnows and jigs. Catfish are in deeper water flats and creek channels on cut bait. White bass are transitioning to points and down the river with some schooling activity hitting jigging spoons and crankbaits. Fishing patterns are still behind what is typical for this time of year. Navigate with caution to avoid sandbars and stumps. Report by Captain Lynn Atkinson, Reel Um N Guide Service. Shad spawn is in full swing. Bass are good keying on hard clay points, grass edges and flooded timber with swim jigs, chatterbaits, topwater spooks or pop-r’s. Offshore bite is 10-20 feet on hard spots and flats, points and creek channel swings using crankbaits, Carolina rigs, shaky heads and dropshots. Crappie have finished spawning in 12-20 feet of water on brush piles and standing timber. Report by Captain Hank Harrison, Double H Precision Fishing.
