October Patriots Challange won by Wade and Spriggs

Clint Wade and Stacy Spriggs caught their five fish limit of 18.56 lbs to win the October 8th Patriots Challenge weekend series tournament at Jackson Hill Marina. Second place went to father son team Clayton and Holden Boulware with four fish that weighed 17.49 lb and third place went to Clarence Sanderson and Booby Addison who managed to catch their five fish limit that totaled 16.28 lbs lbs and once again brought in the days big fish at 6.28 lbs.

Most of the top teams used a combination of early frog fishing and Carolina and Texas rigged plastics to land their better fish. the cooler weather has also begun to produce a lipless crank bait bite for some as the shad begin to gather up in the mouths of creeks north of the 147 bridge. The next Patriots Challenge will be held on November 19th and everyone is invited to participate.

Patriots Challenge was created to say thank you to the people who have given us the freedom to enjoy our wonderful natural resources like Sam Rayburn Lake. The Outdoor Freedom Network is a 501 (c) (3) public charity that operates the Patriots Challenge Fishing Tournament Series to help raise money to host military members past and present for free stays, food, guided fishing trips, rest and relaxation on beautiful Sam Rayburn Lake. 100% of profit made at these weekend series tournaments directly benefit military members and their families. Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 24)

GOOD. Water slightly stained; 70 degrees; 3.49 feet below pool. Navigate with caution to avoid sandbars and stumps. Bass are on points and drains in shallow water spawning, and some are in a post spawn biting crankbaits and Carolina rigs. Some topwater along the grass edges. Crappie are fair in the shallows near stumps and fair on the brush piles. Some crappie are spawning near cypress trees, wade anglers can target these. White bass are schooling on main lake points but not surfacing yet. Catch some with jigs, minnows, crankbaits and jigging spoons. Catfish are slowly moving back to the points. Report by Captain Lynn Atkinson, Reel Um N Guide Service. Shad spawn is in full swing. Bass are good keying on hard clay points, grass edges and flooded timber with swim jigs, chatterbaits, topwater spooks or pop-r’s. Offshore bite is 10-20 feet on hard spots and flats, points and creek channel swings using crankbaits, Carolina rigs, shaky heads and dropshots. Crappie have finished spawning in 12-20 feet of water on brush piles and standing timber. Report by Captain Hank Harrison, Double H Precision Fishing.
