VM Tournament Results

he V&M Wild Thang worm was the talk of the crowd on Sunday afternoon during weigh in. Four of the top five teams used the Wild Thang worm to earn their check. It was also the lure of choice that earned Hank Harrison big bass honors of the tournament with a 10.34 pound Rayburn GIANT!

Less than two weeks ago, Dewayne Reese and his wife Shelby weighed in a solid stringer for a check at Outlaw Outdoor Texscape Labor Day Tournament, but Dewayne reported the majority of those fish were caught on crankbaits. Coming into the weekend, he admitted to never had thrown a V&M plastic. Dewayne and his partner, Roy Carroway brought in a five fish stringer weighing 24.48 pounds, and took home the V&M first place check of $3,500.

The second place team of Chris King and Holly Keen appear they are going to be a duo to contend with on Rayburn this year. This is a newly formed team that has made a solid showing in the first couple of tournaments they have entered on Rayburn, and Sunday was no exception. They brought in a solid stringer of five fish weighing 18.78 pounds and taking home a check for $1,000. Handing a check to a team that has a female as a partner is becoming a common theme. Don't be afraid to invest the time to teach your wife or daughter to fish. Bass do not discriminate!

The team of Tyler Ham and Hank Harrison brought in the big bass of the tournament as soon as the scales opened at 9:00am. Hank caught the giant 10.34 pound bass first thing in the morning on a V&M Wild Thang worm and wanted to weigh her in as soon as possible to assure her being returned to the lake as healthy as possible. Their extra efforts paid off winning them The V&M Big Bass check for $500 and more importantly, the fish was released back into Big Sam alive and healthy.

Thanks to everyone who fished yesterday, and we look forward to having you at The Texscape Average Joe Tournament presented by Dylan Williams Allstate Insurance on September 29 at Cassels Boykin Pavilion.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Jul. 9)

GOOD. Water stained; 86 degrees; 1.54 feet below pool. Freshwater is still entering the lake from the river, and water is being released. Topwater bass bite is early in the morning and evening. Bass are deeper on points, drains and humps with crankbaits and Carolina rigs. Crappie are good on brush piles, but many undersized fish and bluegill to sift through. Catfish are good in 18-20 feet of water on cut bait. A few white bass are schooling on main lake points. Cast baits to shade. Report by Captain Lynn Atkinson, Reel Um N Guide Service.
